Symphonic Band

Symphonic Band is a proficient-level performance class for wind and percussion students with a minimum of two years playing experience on their instrument and the ability to read music. All 9th graders begin band in this class. The class focuses on developing music skills including instrumental techniques and performance practices as it relates to various idioms of selected band literature. Typically, the course will cover literature ranging from Grade III - IV, which are set according to the guidelines of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association. Students perform as individuals, as members of small ensembles and as members of the large ensemble. All students are expected to practice a minimum of 5 hours each week. Symphonic Band is expected to perform 3 concerts a year.
